Atari Development

Where old Atari systems get new love!

Yep, Mac OSX MCP programming is going to happen.

I have never programmed in this environment, so please be patient.  I got the basic framework running, driver and the MCPDevControl.app is coming along.  Comms are working, tested on a PC as the receiver.

Now, the tool actually tries to automatically connect to the port, if it finds the right port to use.  Could lead to false positives, if a ton of serial adapters of the same make are connected, but I don’t care.  It’s more convenient.

Not much, but it is going to happen. 🙂

Uh, oh? Could it be?

IMG_1013First button press, programs 144K to the cart (reading from SD), second press reads 144K from the cart (writes to SD) and the last press verifies by reading from both SD and cart at the same time.  Last part, where I have to get back to the computer, to hit return on a command line tool, that programs the cart remotely.

Timing: 9.19sec., 2.29sec., 2.1sec. and 21.25sec. via USB serial.

Probably gonna add full MCP I/O support to it as well.

More fun parts, maybe a one handed Robotron controller?

So far, I only shoved in 4K, F8 and F6, but the speed is impressive.

From pushing the button to dump the cart to the SD, to finish:

4K: 87ms

8K: 191ms

16K: 363ms

I got brand new Coleco, 5200 and 7800 cart connectors in the mail.

Probably time to design a PCB for the “device”. 😉
